The Early City Park will be closed until further notice as the Early Achievers 4-H Club project gets underway for a handicap accessible playground. For the past four years, the 4-H organization has been fundraising to update the amenity on Third Street, adding two basketball hoops, benches, picnic table and an adaptive swing. The latest project, is a pour-in-place rubber surfacing that will make a softer landing for the playground and easier accessibility for individuals in wheelchairs and other disabilities. Fundraising efforts began and a total of $65,000 was raised to cover construction costs. In a social media post, the Early Achievers members say that they are getting excited, and even though plans changed the location of the equipment, the new accessible surface is the plan. The group thanks the community and all who have stepped up to donate, volunteer and offer expertise to help make this project possible.
