Authorities Release Details From Wednesday Crash That Killed SCC Student

A Rockwell City teen died and a Lake View man was injured following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Calhoun County. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:05 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Fletcher Avenue, about three miles northeast of Lytton. Authorities say a 2002 Ford F150, operated by 15-year-old Cadyn Oscar Ogden, was traveling northbound on Fletcher and failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the highway. As the pickup entered the intersection, it collided with an eastbound 2023 Mack semi-tractor trailer, driven by 71-year-old Richard Lawrence Kanne. Officials note dense fog was reported at the time of the crash. Following the initial collision, the Ogden truck came to rest in the south ditch, and the semi stopped in the highway’s median. Ogden sustained fatal injuries, and Kanne reported non-life-threatening injuries. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County Emergency Medical Services, the Iowa Department of Transportation, and Lytton Fire and Rescue. Ogden was a student at South Central Calhoun High School in Lake City, and in response to the tragedy, the school postponed homecoming activities that were planned for Wednesday.
