U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst will host a service academy open house on Saturday, Sept. 20, in Johnston for Iowa students interested in applying to the nation’s military academies. Each year, Ernst can nominate up to 15 eligible Iowans for admission to each of the five U.S. service academies: the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Ernst says, “As the mom of a West Point graduate, nominating the next generation to our nation’s service academies is one of my greatest honors. My 23 years of military service shaped my life, and I am proud of the young Iowans who are stepping up to answer the call to service. I look forward to meeting with leaders throughout our state interested in learning more about our academies.” Representatives from all five academies will attend to discuss the application and nomination process for their respective institutions.
