Paton Man Pleads Guilty To Multiple Charges For Stabbing, Arson, And Assault On Sheriff Deputy

A Paton man has entered a plea agreement on charges for stabbing an individual, setting the house on fire, and injuring a sheriff’s deputy while being taken into custody earlier this year. According to Greene County District Court records, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence in Paton on March 11, for an individual who was stabbed in the back with scissors by 29-year-old Devin Christopher Hackfort. After the victim left the home, Hackfort set the house on fire and left the scene before law enforcement arrived. Deputies later located Hackfort driving around and attempted a traffic stop, Hackfort refused and eluded law enforcement reaching speeds of over 70 miles per hour throughout town. While being detained, Hackfort spit on a deputy’s face, made threats towards law enforcement, and caused a laceration on the deputy’s finger while being uncooperative. On Aug. 4, Hackfort plead guilty to four charges; a class C felony of second-degree arson, a class D felony of willful injury causing bodily injury, aggravated misdemeanor of assault on a police officer causing bodily injury and a serious misdemeanor of the same charge. Hackfort faces a maximum sentence of up to 18 years in prison and over $35,000 in fines. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 15 at the Greene County Courthouse.
