The Sac County Sheriff, Jonathan Meyer, has resigned from the position but requested to return to the role of sergeant in the department. According to the Sac County Auditors office, Meyer announced the decision in an email to the Board of Supervisors Monday evening, stating personal reasons behind the resignation, effective immediately. In the email, Meyer wrote “I am grateful for the support and trust placed in me during my time as Sheriff. I have learned invaluable lessons and have the privilege of working alongside dedicated professionals who serve our community with integrity and commitment. I look forward to continuing to work with you and the team in a capacity as Sergeant.” Meyer was appointed in July to the position after the retirement of previous Sheriff Ken McClure. Due to HIPPA restrictions, no further details were released, but Meyer’s resignation does come after he received injuries during an incident. Meyer has recommended Chief Deputy Katie Stange to be appointed to fill the position.
