The City of Manning is celebrating securing a $1.75 million grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) for the City Park neighborhood revitalization project. It was back in May that the city was invited to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through IEDA’s Comprehensive Neighborhood Revitalization Program to improve the City Park area with housing, sports facilities, rubber surfacing, trail connections, an upgraded bathroom, and shelter space, among other enhancements. City Administrator Dawn Meyer says, “This opportunity is unlike anything we’ve seen. The combination of public investment and private support is extraordinary, and we couldn’t be more excited to watch this project come to life.” Manning’s journey through the CDBG program began with a $25,000 planning grant to create a well-detailed plan outlining the project specifications, fundraising path, and strategy for city officials and park committee members to successfully bring this idea to life. The total investment in the revitalization of Manning’s City Park will exceed $2.75 million, with $1.75 million from the IEDA grant, $300,000 from the City, and donations from \generous community members. Committee member Lauren Vanderhorst says, “This grant is a true game-changer for Manning and the entire region. Thanks to the vision and persistence of local leadership, volunteers, and donors, these upgrades will not only enrich daily life but also strengthen our economy for years to come.” Construction for the updates to the park area is scheduled to begin in 2026, with the work rolling out in phases over the next four years.
