Movement in the Iowa fuel market was mixed in this week’s report from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and AAA-Iowa. As of Wednesday, Aug. 27, the average price in the state for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.88, one cent lower than last week and 25 cents below prices from a year ago. The national average on Wednesday trended eight cents higher to $3.21 per gallon. Iowa retail diesel averaged $3.53 per gallon, up two cents from a week ago and seven cents above last year’s prices. The national average on diesel rose to 18 cents above Iowa’s prices at $3.71 per gallon. As for renewables at the Des Moines Terminal, E10 was $2.02, Unleaded 87 was $2.32, ULSD #2 was $2.40, ULSD #1 was $2.71, and E70 was $2.01 per gallon. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site rose 13 cents to $2.89 per MMBtu. While IDALS is not currently tracking heating oil and propane prices, a sure sign that fall is almost here is that reporting will begin in a little over a month, in October.
