A Lake View man pleads guilty to escaping from custody at the Sac County Jail and has two felony charges of criminal mischief dismissed, but ordered to pay victim restitution. According to Sac County District Court records, 36-year-old Artis Karazins briefly escaped the holding cell by squeezing himself through a 14-by-8- inch slot while being served a meal. Karazins was intercepted by two deputies nearing the booking area where a physical struggle ensued before he was handcuffed. Karazins was originally in custody for causing significant damage to the East Sac County Little League Field, football field as well as seven individuals’ backyards, leaving the scene and being stopped by law enforcement. Karazins plead guilty to the simple misdemeanor charge of escape from custody and ordered to pay a $430 fine with a 15 percent surcharge. He was given credit for time served for his incarceration period. Karazins was also ordered to pay $8,600 in victim restitution, along with $990 in traffic citations for leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
