Case Involving The Shooting Of An Audubon Man In South Dakota Has Been Forwarded To State Attorney General

The case of a shooting incident that resulted in the death of an Audubon man has been forwarded to the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office for further review. According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, the department responded on the evening of June 12 to an altercation at a cabin along Highway 385, about 6.5 miles southeast of Lead, S.D. Authorities say a fight broke out that evening between four men from Iowa and Nebraska who were staying together as a group of UTV riders. During the altercation, one unnamed individual discharged a single round from a 9mm handgun, striking 59-year-old Larry Petersen of Audubon. Petersen was transported to Monument Health Lead-Deadwood Hospital, where he later died from his wounds. Law enforcement stated they have not positively identified other individuals involved in the fight and were investigating the case. No arrests have been made regarding the shooting. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the case has been forwarded to the state’s attorney general’s office for review and potential charges. No additional information was provided at this time.
