Man Drowns Saturday At Guthrie County’s Diamondhead Lake

Authorities say a man drowned in Guthrie County’s Diamond Head Lake over the weekend. According to Stuart Fire Chief Stephen Martinson, crews were dispatched to the lake at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Saturday after witnesses reported a 35-year-old male swimmer had been swimming outside the roped area and had gone under the water. They called 911 when he did not resurface. While en route, crews requested that the Midwest Regional Dive Team also respond to assist in the recovery. The swimmer’s body was located by divers at approximately 7:47 p.m. Saturday evening. Multiple agencies assisted in Saturday’s response, including Stuart Emergency Medical Services, Stuart Police Department, Adair/Guthrie County Emergency Management, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Audubon County Emergency Management, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). An investigation into the drowning is ongoing.
