The Carroll City Council convenes on Monday for its regularly scheduled meeting and has only a few items of business on the agenda, including the oath of office for new police officers and an ordinance reading for a new stop sign near the Carroll Aquatic Center. The Aug. 25 council meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall. City Manager Aaron Kooiker says they will open the proceedings by administering the oath of office for Owen Klocke and Jacob Michael Smith. Kooiker notes that the department will return to a full roster after these hires are finalized.
Both officers are new to law enforcement and will attend the 16-week Iowa Law Enforcement Academy beginning Sept. 2. Also appearing under the consent agenda is a bid opening report for a new utility vehicle at the Carroll Municipal Golf Course and a request for additional handicap parking spaces in the 1600 block of N. Adams Street near the First United Methodist Church of Carroll. Currently, there are only three designated spots in that block, and church leaders have requested that the city authorize an additional space. The only other action item on Monday’s agenda is the second reading of an ordinance amendment to add a southbound stop sign at the intersection of 11th and Vine Streets. Kooiker says they’ve received no public comment opposed to the new traffic control device so far.
The council will consider waiving the third reading and adopting the ordinance on Monday. Again, the Carroll City Council Meeting on Monday, Aug. 25, begins at 5:15 p.m. at Carroll City Hall. The meeting is open to the public and will also be live-streamed via the city’s YouTube channel. Links to the agenda and video are included below.
