Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRHC) is launching a new program designed to help seniors enhance their strength, mobility, and independence. Beginning Sept. 3, MRHC physical therapists Taylor Nelson and Lucas Schwery will lead 30-minute sessions every Wednesday through Oct. 29 at the Manning Senior Center. The classes, intended for adults 70 years of age and older, will run from 11a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Nelson says, “Our goals with this fitness program are to keep people as mobile as possible and educate and empower older individuals to do simple things to maintain their strength and independence as they age. We lose strength as we get older, leading to other difficulties, one being falls. Exercising regularly has been proven to reduce this risk, and our goal is to help people by showing them ways to exercise safely.” Nelson specializes in balance and coordination rehabilitation, and Schwery focuses on musculoskeletal, neurological, and post-surgical impairments. The pair will guide participants through safe, practical exercises that can be continued outside of a medical environment.
