Iowa hunters who are disabled veterans now have a new deer tag option for the 2025-26 season, which went on sale Aug. 15. The tag was created through legislation approved earlier this year. To qualify, hunters must be Iowa residents, have served on federal active duty, and have a service-connected disability. Eligible hunters may purchase one any-deer tag for $33, valid for any established firearm season, and must use the approved method of take for that season. Applicants must submit documentation, including a DD214 or higher, a current letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs showing a service-connected disability rating, and a Hunter Safety Certificate if not already on file. The application form is available through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website, a link to which is included with this story online. The new tag is separate from the state’s existing severely disabled deer hunter season.
