A Rippey man remained in custody this (Tuesday) morning after allegedly leading authorities on a high-speed chase last week. According to Dallas County District Court records, 30-year-old James Cody Foster is charged with second-degree criminal mischief and eluding at speeds 25 mph over the limit, class D felonies, second-offense operating while intoxicated and assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated misdemeanors, alongside a slew of other traffic violations. Those charges stem from an incident on Friday evening in Perry. The incident began at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of 1st Avenue. Witnesses reported that Foster appeared to be very intoxicated and had left a convenience store in a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup. The Perry Police Department located the truck nearby and attempted a traffic stop. During the stop, Foster sped away and reached speeds of 100+ mph. The pursuit lasted about 15 minutes and ended when law enforcement deployed spike strips, with assistance from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say Foster seriously damaged a patrol vehicle by ramming into it at one point in the pursuit. He was booked into the Dallas County Jail and is slated for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 25.
