City of Carroll and the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) exploring the option to expand the parking lot by the soccer fields. Carroll Mayor Jerry Fleshner approached the board during the Monday night meeting to ask if there would be support behind this project if it was feasible. Fleshner says the city uses the school-owned property for spring and fall soccer through the Carroll Rec Center, but the parking lot isn’t adequate anymore to support all the visitors.
Fleshner says right now the parking lot has two handicapped spots that are always being utilized, which leaves limited availability for others who could really use one.
The expansion would hopefully create up to six additional handicap spots. Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says the partnership between the school and the city has been positive, as city crews always perform maintenance on the fields after they are used. He said the only roadblock that he sees right now is the district’s greenhouse.
The Carroll FFA no longer uses the green house as the heating and cooling components do not function properly and panels were blown off during a wind storm last year. Neither the city or the district have an estimated ball park of how much this project would cost or how much work would need to be completed to the grounds to make this possible. Fleshner was more just looking for support from the board to explore further into this option.
The board agreed to supporting the city to inquire more about expanding the soccer field parking lot and what it would all entail. More details are likely to come at future board meetings.
