CCSD Board Of Education Explores Soccer Field Parking Lot Expansion And Hawkeye Ten Conference Invite During Monday Night’s Meeting

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education discussed an invite to the Hawkeye Ten Conference and expanding parking lot by the soccer fields at Monday night’s meeting. The first item on the agenda was reviewing administrative reports. In Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau’s report, he states the district is looking to add a student assistance program, which will provide resources for mental health assistance such as six virtual counseling sessions and 24/7 support for around $5 per student, or $6,200 a year. Board members reviewed policy and job description revisions before approving donations for students’ athletic passes to home sporting events, girl scout cookies to the Tiger Cupboard and money to be used to purchase a memorial bench for a student that was passed away last year. The board approved of the Kuemper Catholic and CCSD Preschool agreement for a total of $345,281, student teacher agreement with Iowa State University, athletic trainer from St. Anthony Regional Hospital for $12,750, and a Memorandum of Understanding between New Opportunities for Head Start. For action items, approval was given for the disposal of seven grounds equipment that is no longer utilized. Four are not repairable and will be sent to Quants for scrap, while the remaining items will be auctioned off online. Approval was given to purchase Activate Learning, an online resource for the district’s new OpenScIEd curriculum for middle school science, which will contain classroom kits, and teacher ready items to be utilized online for $7,399. Board members approved teacher quality and board policy committee members for this year and change orders for the transportation facility totaling $7,600. Carroll Mayor Jerry Fleshner discussed and asked for the board’s approval to explore the option of expanding the soccer field parking lot at the city’s expense, which the board supported as well as sending out surveys and holding meetings on the invite to the Hawkeye Ten Conference. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on the CCSD Board of Education meeting in upcoming newscasts.
