Carroll Police Department Warns Of Circulating Scam

A common scam is making the rounds in the listening area with calls fraudulently claiming to be from the Carroll Police Department at the center of it. According to a statement posted to the department’s social media last night (Monday), they have received numerous reports from residents claiming they had received a call from “Officer Randal Tucker,” and the caller ID showed the number as unknown. Authorities say there is nobody employed by the department with that name, nor is the phone number being left in voicemails by the fraudster associated with the Carroll Police Department. Officials encourage residents to ignore any phone calls or messages associated with this non-existent officer. It also serves as a reminder to Iowans to be suspicious of any unsolicited contact from an unknown source. When in doubt, hang up and contact the alleged source using a confirmed contact number. A sure sign that a call is a scam is if payment is requested via unusual means, such as gift cards, prepaid debit cards, or cryptocurrency.
