Sac County Sheriff’s Office Hosts Open House At County Jail Ahead Of November Referendum

The Sac County Sheriff’s Office invites the public to an open house at the Sac County Jail this week as part of their effort to showcase how much the aging facility needs replacement. County officials will open the jail to tours on Thursday, Aug. 21, to highlight the many safety concerns that can be found in the nearly nine-decade-old jail, which was originally built in 1939. A $10.9 million bond referendum to fund the construction of a new jail narrowly failed last November, missing the required 60-percent threshold by a 1.21-percent margin. The question will return to Sac County voters during this coming November’s election, but the bond has increased to $12.5 million to account for the rising costs associated with constructing a new jail.
