Multiple Agencies Respond To Hog Confinement Fire Northeast Of Breda Sunday Evening

Multiple agencies responded to a hog confinement fire northeast of Breda Sunday evening. According to Breda Fire Chief, Dan Wiskus, the agencies were dispatched to a confinement located near the intersection of 110th Street and Kittyhawk Avenue at around 5:23 p.m. after the owner received notice that a heat detector was activated and observed smoke coming from the building. The facility had rooms of piglets, with Wiskus estimating half of the animals able to be saved from the fire. The fire caused significant damage to the west half of the structure, causing the roof to cave in and deeming the building a total loss. No significant injuries were reported. It is undetermined at this time what specifically caused the fire. Crews remained on scene for roughly three and a half hours before returning to the station. The Breda Fire Department was assisted by the Lanesboro, Lidderdale, Arcadia, Carroll, and Auburn Fire Departments, as well as Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the Carroll County Ambulance and the Carroll Communications Center.
