Additional Information Released Regarding Officer-Involved Shooting That Left One Person Dead Friday Evening

Authorities release additional information regarding officer involved fatal shooting that occurred in Denison last week. According to a press release from the Denison Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15 to Washington Park. The officer made contact with 36-year-old Feglys (Fa-glees) Antonio Campos Arriba (Ah-re-ba) who became uncooperative and a physical with the officer. During the confrontation, the officer responding sustained serious physical injuries and fired his weapon, striking Campos Arriba. Campos Arriba was pronounced deceased at the scene. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been released. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) leading the investigation. Once completed, the case will be forwarded to the Crawford County Attorney and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office for review of potential charges and prosecution. In accordance with the Denison Police Department policy, the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave. Since the shooting, a protest of over 50 individuals was held at Washington Park, who said Campos Arriba was a homeless man, identified as Cuban, who was battling mental health issues, says more resources in the area need to be available to assist individuals experiencing crisis like this.  Denison Chief of Police Tony Trejo confirmed with Carroll Broadcasting that officers were attempting to find Campos Arriba a place to stay.
