Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has joined 27 other state attorneys general in urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to repeal the Biden administration’s greenhouse gas emissions standards for power plants. The coalition argues that the current standards misuse the Clean Air Act to force coal-fired plants into early retirement via excessive regulations. The U.S. Supreme Court previously blocked a similar plan during the Obama administration. Bird says, “The Obama and Biden-Harris administrations used the EPA to try to regulate the coal industry out of existence to support climate extremism. I’m thankful the Trump administration is taking bold action to restore America’s energy independence and lower energy prices for Iowans.” Iowa also joined 24 other states in sending a letter in support of EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin’s efforts to end the Mercury and Air Toxics Standard (MATS) rule, which they say will help ensure affordable, reliable power. The letter was led by attorneys general from West Virginia, Indiana, and Kentucky. A link to the complete document is included with this story on our website.
