Iowa is known for its corn and soybean production, but according to an Iowa State Fair competition, Carroll County brings the best crops, winning best overall in both divisions. Kevin J Kroeger of Carroll placed third for a single ear of a commercial hybrid corn yield, but is bringing home first place in ten ears, 30 ears yellow, a full gallon shulled and standard bushel. With all the first-place earnings, Kroeger earned the sweepstakes award in the category as well as best overall for corn submitted. Carroll County soybeans also took ranks at the Iowa State Fair competition, with Michelle Kroeger of Carroll earning 1st place for early soybeans, 2nd place for midseason, and first for late season and bundles. Soybeans from Kroeger also placed in the sweepstakes award and took home best overall. Several other competitions are still underway at the Iowa State Fair and Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on local winners from those contests coming up in future newscasts.
