The Carroll County Board of Supervisors discussed and agreed to move forward in the process of reclassifying a portion of Voyager Road from a Level B to a Level C. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the change due to reports of vehicles getting stuck and requesting assistance getting out. The section of roadway is east of Velvet Ave and South of 130th Street over by Carroll County Access. Board Chair Scott Johnson read County Ordinance no. 12 regarding what access looks like on a Level C Road.
County Engineer Zac Andersen says due to the adjacent property owners becoming responsible for maintenance, the parties will have to sign off on a petition to allow for the reclassification.
One vehicle that was reported to be stuck on Voyager Road was there for six weeks before it was able to be pulled out. Andersen says closing the road off with a gate would keep more vehicles that don’t need to be on it without disrupting much, if any, of the day-to-day travels over by Carroll County Access.
Carroll County Access will still be accessible from 130th Street and off of Velvet Avenue without needing to take Voyager Road at all. The Board of Supervisors will be gaining approval from properties owners and will bring this item back at future meetings for consideration.
