The Lake City City Council approved a hiring bonus to attract and retain officers. The goal is to rebuild the department to once again provide a full-time service to the community. At the Aug. 4 meeting, council members agreed to offer a $10,000 hiring bonus for police officers and eliminate the moving stipend. Non-certified officers will start at $25 per hour. This wage increases after certification. Already certified officers will start at $27 to $30 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. The city also seeks to hire a chief of police. This role comes with a $15,000 hiring bonus and starting pay of $32 to $36 per hour. Interested individuals should send a cover letter and resume to Mayor Mike Schliesman using the address provided below, or email to cityadministrator@lakecityiowa.com. Positions remain open until filled. Until a city force is rebuilt, the 28E agreement with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office stands in place.
