DNR Investigating Fuel Spill Into Boyer River Following Dunlap Fire

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is investigating a fuel spill into the Boyer River in Crawford County following a structure fire Wednesday morning in Dunlap. The blaze, which destroyed the Rockin K Solutions service station near the intersection of Highway 30 and County Road 37, led to the release of an estimated 1,200 gallons of fuels, oils, aerosols, and other products, according to the DNR. Officials say most of the released materials were burned up in the fire, but an unknown amount entered a nearby storm drain that connects to the Boyer River via a drainage ditch. As of Wednesday evening, no immediate impacts to aquatic life had been observed. DNR field office staff are on-site and are investigating the extent of the release and any potential environmental effects. The DNR encourages anyone who comes across fish kills or environmental damage related to the incident to contact the Atlantic Field Office at 712-249-9297.
