AG Bird Warns Iowans To Be Vigilant For State Fair Ticket Scams

As the Iowa State Fair opens tomorrow (Thursday), Attorney General Brenna Bird is reminding Iowans to use caution when purchasing tickets for events, citing an increase in digital ticket sale scams. As these types of transactions become commonplace, scammers are creating fraudulent tickets and selling them through unverified platforms. Bird says, “The state fair serves as a great reminder to stay cautious when purchasing event tickets. Scammers prey on the excitement of people who are eager to see a favorite artist, event, or show, so it’s important to be extra cautious and double-check ticket sources.” To avoid scams, her office recommends buying tickets directly from venues, verifying web addresses, avoiding gift card or crypto payments, and paying with secure methods, such as a credit card. Always check ticket details for errors and be cautious of social media sellers, as it can be challenging to verify the authenticity of the offered tickets. Suspected scams can be reported to the Iowa Attorney General’s office at 888-777-4590 or online at www.iowaattorneygeneral.gov.
