With August now here, the countdown to the first day of school has begun, and for students and families at Kuemper Catholic, that is less than three weeks away. While the buildings and grounds have been quieter over the summer, Kuemper President John Steffes says they’ve been plenty busy behind the scenes.
Kuemper’s 11 new staff members are in the office on Aug. 13, with returning staff back on Aug. 19. Kuemper’s Family Fun Knight is slated for Thursday, Aug. 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and includes the knighting ceremony for new kindergarteners, open houses at the school buildings, and food in the Holy Spirit playground. The first day of school is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25. Every year brings changes concerning student handbooks and school policies, and Steffes says this year is no exception.
One of those big changes concerns student transportation. Kuemper students in the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) are generally offered busing through the public school, but driver shortages forced school officials to revamp their in-town services.
Steffes adds that rural students’ transportation will be unaffected by the adjustment. As for buildings and grounds, it has been more than routine upkeep at Kuemper. Steffes says they are making progress with BCDM Architects as they develop the parochial school’s facility plan.
As the countdown to a new academic year nears single digits, Steffes reminds students and families to start getting back into their school routines so the return to the classroom goes smoothly. He encourages students and parents to stay connected to Kuemper Catholic online at www.kuemper.org or via the school’s social media pages.
