An increase in traffic may be noticed in the area over today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) due to the U.S Highway 141 garage sales taking place. This marks the 23rd year of the 170 mile stretch from Sloan to Grimes with residents from 22 different communities participating. Occurring every year the first weekend of August, the famous garage sale spree brings hundreds from all over the state, a welcoming sign for participating town businesses and attractions to gain additional visitors. Safety is the priority during the busy weekend, participants are asked to use caution if parking along the highway as it is busy with on-going traffic and to always accompany children when crossing the highway. Travelers along the highway are asked to remain vigilant, as vehicles may be stopping abruptly or slowing down to pull over and to watch for pedestrians crossing.
