The Greene County Board of Supervisors approved of a 5-year phased tax abatement for the expansion project of New Cooperative at the Cooper Site. New Cooperative completed the Cooper site off Highway 4 back in 2021, with total grain storage of three million bushels and a production capacity of 500,000 tons of pelleted feed from the feed mill. With the expansion, an additional 1.8 million bushels can be stored on the site, including soybeans. The need for expansion came with the increase of New Cooperative membership with an excess amount of corn piled at the facility location. The supervisors approved of a 5-year tax abatement that will begin at 75 percent the first year, followed by 60 percent, 45 percent, 30 percent and 15 percent in the remaining four years respectively. The specific amount will be determined after construction is complete and the property’s assessed value is determined. The expansion is expected to be completed by harvest to avoid any delays in storing members’ corn and soybeans.
