Additional Change Orders Approved But Transportation Facility Project Remains On Track With Schedule

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education approved of two change orders and the purchase of additional equipment for the transportation facility during Monday night’s board meeting. McCarthy Trenching requested an order for a valve nut extension and an 8’ fitting for a total of $3,937.50, which is essential for operating and accessing buried valves. Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says the next change order is for a request from the district after hearing from bus drivers request for an additional concrete section.

The district right now is quoted for $68,544 for the concrete work, but Berlau says the price will decrease as the board is not looking to extend the concrete all the way to the fence. Berlau says there was a third change order for an essential piece to the wash bay for the facility.

The supply catch basin would cost the district an additional $3,850 in material and labor. Board members questioned Berlau if he was in contact with DLR, the architect firm, to discuss why this wasn’t included in the original bid. Berlau said that DLR said it wasn’t intentional, and were just really trying to focus on keeping the contingences of the budget in mind. Board Member Jim Friel asked if a meeting could be set up with DLR to discuss the matter.

Berlau was going to reach out to DLR again to get a meeting set up. The rest of the quotes was for equipment that the district always agreed to be responsible for, such as a power washer, hoist trolly, bus lift and air compressor. The quotes for equipment approved came out to a total of $34,382.
