Sac-County-Sheriffs-Office-Badge

The Sac County Board of Supervisors appointed Sgt. Jonathon Meyer as Sac County Sheriff this (Tuesday) morning. Meyer, with the department for several years, was promoted to Sergeant in 2018. He fills the vacancy left by Sheriff Kenneth McClure, who retired last month after 37 years in law enforcement. Meyer, the department’s K-9 handler, earned recognition with his first K-9, Petey, who placed second among 57 teams at the 2020 USPCA re-certification training. Meyer and Petey were also commended for finding nearly six pounds of marijuana during a 2019 traffic stop near Odebolt. Petey is now retired and lives with Meyer, while K-9 Havoc now patrols with him. The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) awarded Meyer for his efforts and commitment to reduce injuries and fatalities on Iowa roads in 2021. Meyer often attends local school and community events, informing students and residents about K-9 Havoc’s work. Meyer will serve as Sheriff until November 2026, when he must run in the general election to retain the position.
