The Carroll Chamber of Commerce played host yesterday (Wednesday) to the Iowa Rural Development Council, Empower Rural Iowa, and Lt. Gov. Chris Cournoyer. Chamber Executive Director Kimberly Tiefenthaler says it was a prime opportunity to examine Carroll’s downtown challenges and successes with economic development professionals from across the state.
Tiefenthaler serves on the Empower Rural Iowa Task Force, which helps keep rural Iowa’s concerns at the forefront of legislators’ and policymakers’ minds. While in Carroll, the group toured the HUB 712 site, met at Santa Maria Winery to hear a presentation from Jeff Greteman of Windstar Lines, and checked out the completed and in-progress façade work in downtown.
Lt. Gov. Cournoyer hails from eastern Iowa, and Wednesday’s visit to Carroll was her first time in the community. Tiefenthaler says she believes they made a good first impression.
Tiefenthaler says much of the discussion on Wednesday centered on rural leadership, specifically encouraging people to run for local offices.
