The Carroll City Council approved the final reading of an ordinance amendment regarding permitting for mobile vendors at its meeting on Monday night. The amendment primarily affects food trucks via the creation of a $300 annual permit for routine visitors. Traveling merchants would also have the option of a $150 monthly license if they plan to stay in town for an extended period. The regular $25-per-day permit remains unchanged. Police Chief Brad Burke says the food trucks that he has spoken with are pleased with the change.

The ordinance would also prohibit for-profit door-to-door sales in residential neighborhoods, which Burke sees as a positive for Carroll residents.

Ward 2 Councilman Jason Atherton questioned if any brick-and-mortar stores in town, particularly restaurants, had concerns about the ordinance change. Burke says he was not aware of any as of Monday night.

The council voted unanimously to approve the third and final reading of the ordinance amendment and adopted the change. The updated ordinance will take effect following its official publication by the city later this month.
