Two people were seriously injured over the weekend in Guthrie County following an SUV/motorcycle accident on Highway 4 north of Panora. According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 12:08 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at the intersection with 180th Street. Authorities say a 2016 Ford Escape, operated by 40-year-old Sarah Hefel of North Liberty, was traveling northbound on the highway and had begun to slow to make a right turn onto 180th Street. A northbound 2023 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, ridden by 63-year-old Dana Rutherford of Bagley, failed to slow for the turning SUV and collided with its rear end. Rutherford and his passenger, 70-year-old Lyn Rutherford of Bagley, both sustained incapacitating injuries in the collision. Both Rutherfords were transported by air ambulance to UnityPoint Iowa Methodist in downtown Des Moines for treatment. Hefel was uninjured in the crash.
