U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says that while President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” covers some of what is found in a farm bill, Congress is still working to establish the legislation after multiple extensions. The American Relief Act of 2025 was signed into law last December, extending the current farm bill that was established in 2018 for another year until Sept. 30. Grassley says The United States Senate on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee Chairman, John Boozman (R-Ark.), did not announce a timeline, but is still strongly encouraging Congress to pass a bill.
Grassley says the bill would not have to be completed by the end of the year, but at least establish a framework to continue moving forward. He believes that this Congress is approximately 18 months ahead of the 118th Congress, which was under the Biden Administration.
Grassley says he wants Iowans to remember that the safety net, which is a collective of programs administered by the U.S Department Of Agriculture (USDA), is covered in President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” to provide assist farmers who experience challenges from natural disasters, inadequate growing conditions, and low market prices.
Grassley made his comments during his Weekly Capitol Hill Report with Iowa reporters.
