The Carroll County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously this (Monday) morning to authorize the county’s insurer, Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP), to settle pending litigation against the county. The supervisors met in closed session for nearly an hour with county officials and the county’s insurance representatives to review the circumstances surrounding the incident in question and discuss the feasibility of a settlement. Because an agreement is yet to be finalized, county officials declined to provide more information about the nature of the event. However, they indicated information would be released after the settlement documentation is signed and approved. According to the supervisors, the county’s financial responsibility would be $3,000, which is the county’s deductible, and ICAP would cover the remainder. The board voted unanimously to allow ICAP to proceed with negotiations for the settlement. The Carroll City Council, which is also a party to the settlement, is scheduled for a closed session tonight (Monday).
