Porta-Pot Deodorizer Spill Shuts Down Intersection In Denison Tuesday Afternoon

Multiple Denison agencies responded to an unknown substance spill in the city’s streets Tuesday afternoon. At approximately 2 p.m., the Crawford County Emergency Management was made aware of a spill at the intersection of Avenue C and 7th Street. Upon arrival, it was discovered that roughly one gallon of deodorizer for a porta-pot holding tank had fallen from the back of a vehicle and was struck by another car. The container ruptured, spreading throughout the street with some of the liquid getting soaked into the grass. The deodorizer is not considered hazardous, s o there was no immediate danger or impact on water or air quality. The roadway was blocked throughout the afternoon as the Denison Public Works, Denison Fire Department, Crawford County Emergency Management, Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Denison Police Department assisted at the scene to clean up the spill; however, it is now reopened to the public.
