The Paton-Churdan Early Learning Center (ELC) is seeking financial support from the Greene County Board of Supervisors for renovations to a newly purchased building to create an updated facility. Earlier this year, the ELC purchased the underutilized Methodist Church in Churdan to transform it into a new center for the nonprofit organization. Currently housed in a building that the Paton-Churdan school district has operated for the past 20 years, the decision to move into a new space was made after being denied funding for upgrades and maintenance. The organization is looking to raise $1.7 million for renovations to transform the church, adding two additional classrooms to accommodate twenty more children than they are serving now. The ELC is currently at full capacity, with 50 children enrolled and a waiting list for families in Greene, Calhoun, and Webster Counties. The Greene County Board of Supervisors is considering a 28E agreement with the center, which would offer financial support of $180,000 over the next five years. The agreement is being created and reviewed by the county attorney and will be formally considered at the July 7 meeting. Anyone interested in supporting the project can find the details on how to donate included below.
