Jefferson Woman In Custody On First Degree Murder Charges For Alleged Shooting Friday Evening

A Jefferson woman is in custody after an alleged shooting that killed a man Friday evening. According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence on M Ave at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday after receiving a report of shots being fired. On scene, deputies found the body of 54-year-old Richard Thompson. The other individual in the home was his wife, 49-year-old Christene Thompson. She was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, a class A felony. She remains in custody at the Greene County Jail. A class A felony in Iowa has a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. This is an ongoing investigation being led by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
