The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch for portions of western and northwestern Iowa for this (Wednesday) afternoon, including Sac, Calhoun, and Crawford counties. Officials say flash flooding is possible from 3 p.m. today to 1 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday), as excessive rainfall is possible over the next 30 hours. Rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas are prone to seeing sudden influxes of water during such weather events. In the event of a flash flood, remember to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” as it takes only a few inches of moving water to knock a person off their feet. Around a foot of water is enough to sweep away most vehicles, and two feet can carry away even larger automobiles, like SUVs and trucks.
