Sens. Grassley, Ernst Meet With Local Students In D.C. For Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley met with a group of Iowa students in Washington, D.C., last week as part of the 2025 Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, which promotes leadership development and civic engagement among high schoolers from rural communities. Students participating in the national program are selected by their state’s electric cooperative associations and spend the week learning about energy advocacy, American history, and the workings of the federal government. As part of the tour, students meet with lawmakers, visit federal agencies, and explore national landmarks. Grassley says, “Rural electric cooperatives keep the lights on in rural communities across the country, particularly in Iowa. Encouraging students to understand and advocate on behalf of these critical member-driven co-ops helps advance energy security. I’m grateful these students are getting involved and learning about the important role electric cooperatives play in Iowans’ everyday lives.” Students from the area taking part in this year’s event include Annabelle Baggett of Elk Horn, Isabel Nunez of Harlan, Joseph Thielen of Scranton, and Liliana Spencer of Rockwell City. The program is organized annually by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.
