The Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved a request from Landus Cooperative at Monday’s meeting to move their Templeton anhydrous ammonia facility outside of town, pending review by the Carroll County Board of Adjustment. Landus Project Lead Casey Harken explains what they have planned for the facility.

Harken adds moving the Templeton facility has been on Landus Cooperative’s project list for quite some time, and the change is finally moving forward.

Harken says their goal is to have the new facility operational as soon as this fall. However, if the project experiences delays, they will keep the in-town facility operational through the fall application period to avoid disrupting local farmers. The supervisors agreed that the move is mutually beneficial for Landus and Templeton residents, but they were uncertain whether a ruling from the board of adjustment was needed. County Assessor and GIS Coordinator Sarah Haberl says it shouldn’t be an issue, but the board of adjustment would need to review it.

The supervisors voted unanimously in favor of the Landus improvement project, contingent on board of adjustment approval at its next meeting. Once completed, Landus Cooperative’s new facility would have an anhydrous ammonia capacity of 60,000 gallons, with the potential to add an additional 30,000-gallon tank. However, the company would need to seek approval for a third tank if it chooses that route in the future.
