Fort Dodge Woman Released From Custody After Allegedly Abusing Causing Injuries To Young Child

A Fort Dodge woman has plead not guilty and released from custody this week after allegedly causing serious injuries and depriving a young child of necessities. According to Calhoun County District Court records, 22-year-old Emma Ann Swanson was arrested by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office back in May on outstanding warrants of child endangerment, multiple acts, a class B felony, and willful injury causing serious injury, a class C felony. Authorities say from July 1 through October 31 2024, Swanson deprived the young male child of food, failed to seek medical attention for seizure activity, and used unreasonable force resulting in a skull fracture, hemorrhages and bruising across the body, including the child’s scrotum area. Swanson was released on Tuesday on her own recognizance, with a jury trial scheduled for August 12. If convicted, Swanson can face a maximum sentence of up to 35 years in prison and $13,660 in fines.
