A Manson-based non-profit created to donate guitars to Iowa students raised more than $16,000 last weekend during its first annual Strokes for Strings event at Carroll National. Broken Strings was founded in 2021 by well-known local musician Scott Kirkhart, and its board is led by Jason Hacker of Carroll. The Saturday, June 14, fundraiser featured a golf scramble, live music from more than a half-dozen bands, a live and silent auction, and backing from the Nick Nurse Foundation and the Joey Jordison Charitable Fund. Money raised supports Broken Strings’ mission to provide free instruments, primarily guitars, to a student at every Iowa school district, and to date, more than 100 have been gifted. Organizers thank participants, attendees, sponsors, and anyone who contributed in some way to Strokes for Strings. With the inaugural event’s success, Broken Strings has already announced the date for their second annual tournament, which will be held on July 11, 2026, at Carroll National.
