CCSD Board Of Education Approves Reducing Transportation To Students Outside Two Mile Radius

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education has approved limiting bus routes to serve students outside a two-mile radius to accommodate the shortage of drivers. During the last school board meeting, Transportation Director Jennifer Dentlinger approached the board members with potential changes she was considering implementing for the upcoming school year. She says the district was currently providing transportation to every student, running 22 routes. Dentlinger says that with only 17 drivers committed to returning and no new applications, changes had to be made.

Superintendent Dr. Casey Berlau says CCSD has been in contact with Kuemper Catholic, which also utilizes transportation services through the district, and they are willing to work out this plan. Dentlinger says that students who live within two miles of their respective attendance center will still be offered transportation through a shuttle bus system, provided they meet at the closest school building to their residence.

Board Member Jill Johnston asked for clarification on whether it was two miles from any school building or the student’s specific attendance center.

Additional details regarding this change will be provided to parents in the next few weeks. Also approved are the adjusted start and dismissal times for CCSD buildings. Fairview and Adams Elementary will start at 8:10 a.m. and dismiss students at 3:25 p.m. Carroll Middle School will begin at 8:15 a.m. and dismiss students at 3:15 p.m. Carroll High School will have classes start at 8:05 a.m. and conclude the day at 3:10 p.m.
