A Coon Rapids woman was taken into custody after allegedly using over $1,000 of an older victim’s card at a supermarket earlier this year. According to Carroll County District Court records, authorities say 52-year-old Michelle Renee Anthofer used the victim’s bank card for $925 at Walmart in Carroll and $100 on Paypal without the consent of the owner between Feb. 1 and Feb. 7, 2025. Anthofer is facing charges of dependent adult abuse by a caretaker, and financial exploitation of an older individual, both class D felonies. She has pled not guilty to the charges, and her arraignment hearing is scheduled for June 26 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If convicted, Anthofer faces a maximum sentence of up to ten years in prison and over $20,000 in fines.
