Drivers across Iowa can expect increased law enforcement presence next week as part of a statewide effort to enforce and raise awareness of Iowa’s Move Over Law. The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), in partnership with the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force, will have officers watching for drivers who fail to change lanes or slow down when approaching vehicles with flashing lights on the shoulder, which includes emergency responders, tow trucks, and disabled vehicles. The Move Over Law was signed into law in 2002 and aims to prevent roadside tragedies. Violations can result in fines over $200 and potential license suspension. GTSB urges all motorists to move over or slow down if you see flashing lights on the side of the road, regardless of if they are red, blue, or amber. The Move Over initiative runs from June 17 through June 19.
