The South Grimmell Road bridge by Jefferson, which has been closed since last August for a bridge replacement project, is officially opened back up today (Wednesday) two months ahead of schedule. The City of Jefferson and the Greene County Board of Supervisors partnered to replace the “functionally obsolete” bridge last year as one of the top priorities for Greene County’s Five-Year Construction Plan. Godbersen-Smith Construction Co. and Subsid. was awarded a contract worth over $2 million for the construction of a new bridge over the North Raccoon River southwest of Jefferson. The project was expected to take over a year to complete, but due to favorable weather conditions, crews were able to finish the work ahead of schedule. City and county officials thank all residents and travelers in the area for their flexibility during the time when the roadway was closed.
