Edward Andrew Hoffman was born on October 21, 1936 in Roselle, Iowa the son of Andrew and Laura (Riesberg) Hoffman.  He grew up in Roselle and graduated from Holy Angels School.  After graduation he worked for area farms and then worked for Sharp Funeral Home and flower shop.

On November 9, 1957, he married the love of his life Lorraine Hagemann in Carroll.  In 1958, they moved to a farm south of Auburn where he began farming.  In 1960, they purchased their present farm near Lidderdale.  He continued to farm and did custom windrowing for neighboring farmers.  In 2006, he retired from farming but remained on the acreage.

The Catholic faith was very important to Ed.  He volunteered as an usher and assisted with Holy Family Cemetery.  He attended, watched Mass and prayed the rosary often.  Ed was a member for many years at Holy Family Church in Lidderdale until its closing.  He then became a member of Our Lady of the Plains Parish in Lake City.  He enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles, fishing, and watching and listening to the Chicago Cubs.  Ed loved teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Ed was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and member and past president of Farmers Cooperative for Lidderdale, Glidden, Lanesboro, and Carroll.
