A Pocahontas man has entered a plea agreement with prosecutors and will pay over $250,000 in restitution for stealing and selling pigs from facilities across multiple counties, including Calhoun County. According to Calhoun County District Court records, 27-year-old Corey Edward Goeders took hogs from confinements in five different counties between April 2023 and April 2024 and selling them for personal profit. In Calhoun County alone, Goeders stole 171 hogs valued at over $26,000. In total, it is estimated that he stole $296,000 worth of butcher hogs. Per the plea agreement out of Palo Alto, Goeders will plead guilty to ongoing criminal conduct, unlawful activity, a class B felony, and first-degree theft, a class C felony. The remaining charges, including money laundering, three counts of first-degree theft, and 15 counts of second-degree theft, will be dismissed as per the agreement. Goeders will have the indeterminate prison sentence of 35 years for both charges suspended, instead sentenced to probation, and will pay $260,723 in victim restitution. His plea and sentencing hearing are scheduled for June 16 at the Palo Alto County courthouse.
